Happy St. Patrick’s Day! A day full of greenery at the beginning of spring, this holiday is celebrated worldwide. I have a few delicious green recipes here at Sweet Potato Soul, but I’ve rounded up the best vegan St. Patrick’s Day recipes from other vegan food bloggers to round out the menu.

What kind of food do you think of when you think of Ireland? The European country is of course known for comfort foods like potatoes, beer and stew. Unfortunately, not all of that is vegetarian. The great thing about going vegan in 2023 is that many foods have plant-based substitutions or can be adapted to your lifestyle!

St. Patrick’s Day is historically celebrated to mark the death of the Irish bishop St. Patrick. Today, the shamrock-filled holiday is celebrated worldwide, with many countries participating in the celebration of Irish culture, including the United States. Although America is a melting pot of culture, the day is celebrated by many with drinking, eating, wearing green and wearing green.

If you’re looking for an excuse to try some delicious green foods or explore your Irish heritage, these recipes are for you. I’ve included my own recipes that are green, as well as a ton of vegetarian Irish recipes from other vegetarian food bloggers. Green mashed potatoes, anyone?

Vegan St. Patrick’s Day Drinks

I hope you have some potatoes on hand! By default we tend to associate potatoes with Ireland and these dishes are by no means potato-poor. We have many variations of these Irish dishes, but these are vegetarian versions of classic Irish dishes.

Make your own green food

So maybe you don’t want green eggs and ham, but if neither of those options suit your style, you can always whip up your own delightful green spread. Try some veggies and hummus and garnish with broccoli, cauliflower, green peppers and some chopped spinach. Roast some vegetables like asparagus and zucchini and add to colcannon soup. Make a hearty bowl with kale, avocado, roasted carrots and a creamy tahini sauce. Or just blend some green peas and make a pea soup! There are tons of plant-based recipes to enjoy this green-focused holiday, and you probably already have plenty of ingredients in your fridge or pantry. Make a fruit platter with green apples and kiwis and a homemade dessert dip!

Note that not all pre-made items are plant-based. Baileys is not dairy-free, so stick to a vegetarian recipe you can make at home.
