Based in Dayton and opened in 1973, Boston Stoker is one of those long-established coffee roasters serving quality coffee before it was fresh. The coffee roaster (and occasional cigar purveyor) is still based in Dayton and has grown to several locations in western Ohio.
They first entered the Columbus market in 2013 with a store on Neil Avenue on the Ohio State campus before moving it down the street to the Thurber Village Mall. With the redevelopment of that area, they closed that store and in 2022 moved to the old Luck Bros store in Grandview.

I’ve always liked this space and I’m glad that it has a cafe again. It’s long and narrow, with a cafe on one side, some retail shelves, and then a collection of tables, couches, and chairs.

Similar to other long-standing shops like Crimson Cup, Boston Stoker walks the line between expert third-wave coffee (grand espresso, pour overs, French press, Chemex) and more “mainstream” cafés with lattes, frozen drinks, tea and sandwiches. , and snacks.

My preference is always to go to the espresso bar, and I’m happy to say that I’m satisfied with the coffee I’ve had there.

Boston Stoker still captures that ’90s cafe feel, with mismatched furniture, sofas and rugs.

They have a large table towards the back, plus a few two-top chairs and other plush chairs, but I love the front corners near the windows.

While you’re there, you can buy beans (include some Luck Bros roasts!), brewing equipment, mugs. There is even a small humidor with cigars.

Boston Stoker has maintained its position in Columbus and even has a second location coming to Shawnee Hills sometime this year.
