Congee Brochure and Guide – Breakfast Cure-Slow Cooker Meals

Congee brochure and guide

Have you ever spent endless hours working to help make life easier for someone or a group of people, only to realize that you may have skipped over the most obvious and ridiculously simple solutions you could have offered?

This morning as we speak with Tiffany, a colleague from Santa Cruz, California, and advocate for our profession as a volunteer CSOMA board member. We were able to chat about easier ways to share congee and the Breakfast Cure with patients that we know would benefit and love them.

“I use brochures to educate my patients on everything from cupping to bone broth. How about a one-page congee PDF for the pros?”

I myself have been practicing acupuncture for thirty years and love my stash of brochures, created and collected over time, so this “Aha!” moment made me laugh out loud. “Of couse!” Simple answers are best.

I’m really excited to share the result with you today. I hope you enjoy and find this little congee booklet and guide useful.

Prefer to read the brochure right now? Here’s what the brochure says about congee.

Congee is a porridge, traditionally made from rice. Just like oats or rice pudding, except the congee is slow cooked with five or more times the volume of water. This allows the beans to fully cook with plenty of moisture to spare.

Healing congees have been prescribed for centuries and are part of traditional Chinese medicine and Asian dietary therapy.

Why eat congee?

  • easily provides the necessary nutrients
  • calms, heals and repairs the organs (and channels) of digestion
  • regulates disposal
  • offers an easy and healthy meal that cooks while you sleep, play, work…

Why congee for breakfast?

Keep your system running smoothly all day by breaking your fast with hot, cooked, moist foods to

  • Make sure the fiber is soft; otherwise, the fiber can be rough and damage the intestinal walls.
  • Make sure that too much fiber, without enough water, does not cause constipation.

Congee gets everything moving through your system with a gentle cleansing action so your elimination is healthy and stays regular. It’s the perfect time to take your herbs.

How to make congee help digestion?

In Chinese medicine, hot foods increase the Qi and Yang of the Spleen and feed the fires of digestion. When Spleen Qi and Yang are strong, fluids are regulated and digestion, elimination and metabolism are optimized.

Congee calms the mind and body, amplifying the other positive effects.

Why does congee work when nothing else does?

Warm, well-cooked, hydrating foods are easy to digest, they generate energy and are soothing to the stomach and intestines.

Foods that are easy to digest and absorb provide the nutrients you need without all the effort. The net effect is an overall increase in energy and metabolism.

Cooking congee in plenty of water makes it an exceptionally hydrating meal. Good hydration reduces inflammation and lubricates all cells, muscles and organs keeping them flexible and energized.

The Yin and Yang of digestion

  • Constipation: Better with good hydration (Nourish Yin)
  • Loose or irregular stools, better with warm food (Build Yang)
  • Low energy or metabolism/difficulty maintaining a healthy weight, best with easy-to-digest foods (Strengthens Qi/regulates fluids and metabolism)
  • Pain or discomfort in the stomach or intestines: benefits, relieves, regulates and harmonizes

I love my breakfasts now. It used to be my most difficult meal because apart from oatmeal there was hardly anything I could eat. But now I have these rich, nutritious, warming and delicious meals. It really is making a difference!

Thank you for putting your passion for this into practice and making it available to those of us who don’t have the knowledge or interest to do it ourselves!! It may have saved my life.

I cooked Breakfast Cure for my mom and I last night and it was a total hit. At 98, my mother has become a picky eater, but she ate 2 large portions with gusto. His demeanor went from snarky smiles to placid ones. I loved it too.

During my busy time taking care of mom, I’ve been making Breakfast Cure for breakfast, so that’s one thing I don’t have to worry about. It is ready when I am and I know it will be gentle on my stomach and nutritious.
