- Soy sauce: Soy sauce adds a delicious saltiness to this marinade. You can also use regular soy sauce, low-sodium soy sauce, or tamari (for a gluten-free option).
- BBQ sauce: Choose your favorite BBQ sauce. We prefer a sweeter BBQ sauce to balance out the soy sauce, but you can choose smoky or salty too. Your decision!
- Chopped Garlic: If in doubt, add garlic.

How to marinate pork tenderloin
Are you ready to learn how to make the best pork tenderloin marinade recipe? It takes a whole 10 minutes. Let’s do it:
- First mix together the BBQ sauce, soy sauce and chopped garlic. Mix to combine.
- Transfer your pork tenderloin(s) to a container such as a casserole dish, gallon-sized plastic bag, or stasher bag.
- Then pour the marinade over the pork. Make sure the pork is completely covered in marinade, then remove as much as possible from your container. Seal.
- Place the pork in the refrigerator for 4 to 12 hours to marinate.
How long should you marinate pork tenderloin?
Pork tenderloin tastes best when marinated for at least 4 hours or overnight. If you’re short on time, marinate your pork for at least 30 minutes.
If using a citrus or vinegar marinade, marinate your pork for a maximum of 4 hours. The acid can break down the pork, making it tough and tough.
Cooking methods for pork tenderloin
This really is the perfect marinade for grilled pork tenderloin, but it’s also perfect for baking, instant pot, sous vide, and every other cooking method out there! Here is a brief summary of each of these methods.
Grilled: Preheat grill to 400°F. Grill the pork tenderloin over direct heat for about 12 minutes, turning halfway through. Grill until internal temperature reaches 145°F. Check out our Grilled Pork Tenderloin recipe.
Baked: Fry the pork tenderloin in butter until brown. Then bake at 400ºF for about 10 minutes, flip and bake an additional 12-16 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 145ºF. Check out our Baked Pork Tenderloin recipe.
Instant Pot: Use the sear function to sear the pork tenderloin for a few minutes on each side, until brown. Then pour the chicken broth over the pork and deglaze the pan. Cook on high pressure for 15 minutes. Check out our Instant Pot Pork Tenderloin recipe.

We recommend marinating pork between 30 minutes and 12 hours. The longer you marinate it, the juicier and more flavorful your pork will be.
In some cases, you can marinate pork tenderloin for too long. If it contains an acid like citrus or vinegar, we recommend marinating it for just 30 minutes to 4 hours. However, this pork tenderloin marinade recipe doesn’t have any of those.
Pork tenderloin is best tenderized with salt. You can achieve this by sprinkling the meat with coarse sea salt and letting it rest for about an hour.
It all depends on what cooking method you use. However, since pork tenderloin is a lean cut of meat, we recommend cooking it slowly and hot or quickly and hot.
Can I freeze this pork tenderloin marinade?
Freeze your pork tenderloin right in the marinade so you can thaw and cook whenever you want. We recommend using a gallon sized plastic bag.
- Place the marinade and pork tenderloin in the gallon-sized bag.
- Remove and seal as much air as possible.
- Write “pork tenderloin” on the front of the bag and freeze for up to 3 months.
When you’re ready to cook, let it thaw completely, then use your favorite cooking method.

Place the pork in a casserole dish, gallon bag, or stasher bag and pour the marinade over the pork. Make sure it’s fully coated.
